The video is really informative and to the point. However, for future videos can you remove the text with the semi-black background so that the video can be seen clearly.
Thanks.

@Lukeschedel “Older weed eater” and “just got it running a few days ago” would lead a prudent person to suspect this was given to you by a previous owner who replaced it, you picked it up out of some trash, or it sat in your shed/garage for years. If it sat with fuel in it for a long period of time the carb may need to be pickled and rebuilt due to hardened varnish (if a kit is still made or it). In any case, that will cost more than it is worth. Go buy a QUALITY unit ($200+) and be happy.

@Lukeschedel Nerd rager that thinks he’s tough shit? No just someone who was trying to help someone who gave little to no SPECIFIC, KEY information and who’s logic train has derailed. If you re-read the posts you are the F-bomb dropping name caller who is getting all bent out of shape, I am calm and just showing you how you fail and backyard mechanics.

@Lukeschedel 2cycles get VERY hot, most home users don’t know shit about their equipment and are usually their own worst enemy. Like I said key info would help. My father only owns his own lawn and garden dealership so I think I picked up a thing or two. You still haven’t said what brand it is but it is likely some cheap throw away unit that has a factory rated 6-10 hour lifespan (not joking.) It does not pay to try to fix old/worn 2 strokes with unknown history, repairs can cost more than new.

@Lukeschedel You ask for free help, leaving out key information (You never said anything about melting, only hot, an engine, hot?..No shit?)) because your are to cheap to have it looked at. If you put in the correct oil mix why would you add more? That may only exacerbate or hide a problem. Have you messed with the carb? (Homeowners love to fiddle with what they don’t understand.). How old is it? Brand? But of course people are should read your mind and help you for free and then get sarcasm…

@Lukeschedel Adding more oil will only make it harder to start and leave an oily exhaust residue all over the unit and yourself. 2 stroke engines due get very hot, this is normal, they are after all running 10k+ RPM. It is normal for the engine case and spark plug to get very hot so don’t touch them! Use the correct oil/fuel mixture and just run it as normal. One of the worst things you can do with a 2 stroke is NOT run it at high RPM. Running is slow will foul the plug, make carbon etc etc.

@mmmodafoca well some people are more particular. Edgers give a more well defined cut when you need to cut through overlapping sod. I used to think like you until I became a homeowner.

hahah i just use a regular weed-eater to edge my lawn.. no offense but i dont go all proper like most folks do. i mean why waste your money buying a silly weed-eater with a wheel? if youre not a drunk you should have the right balance to use a regular weed-eater in the air..
