Lawn care business sales lesson. GopherHaul Lawn Care Business Marketing Show

04 Sep

www.gopherforum.com – We can always learn more about sales. Without sales we would have no income and without an income we would have no business. So to boost your lawn care business sales lets have a talk with Nick, a fellow Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum member. Nick used to be a car salesman before he moved on and decided to stop making others rich and start making himself rich. I got a chance to ask him to share with us some of his insight into how a lawn care business owner can improve their sales and here is what he had to say. Most any business revolves around sales, and in most cases you will sell something at least once in your life. A simple sale can be broken down into steps. There are many different forms of the steps to the sale but here are the ones I use 1. Meet and Greet The meet and greet is the first and most important part of a sale. A lawn care customer is going to decide if they are going to buy something from you within the first 15 seconds of meeting you. During the meet and greet you should shake your prospective customers hand, look at them in the eyes and state your name and why you are on there door step(or where ever). Remember this customer could lead you to more sales so take them as they are your monthly salary, your childs next meal, the new zero turn mower, etc. 2. Fact Find When you fact find all you are basically doing is finding out the needs of your lawn care customer. Ask your questions and when they answer just sit back and listen

GopherHaul 33 – Landscaping and Lawn Care Business Marketing Forum Show.

www.gopherforum.com – Where your phone number should appear in your lawn care website. You would think by the title of this article, the story below would be so simple you didnt even have to read it but that is certainly not the case. Most lawn care business owners dont put much time into where their phone number should appear. Just ask yourself where does your phone number appear? One of our forum members had some great information to share in this post at the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum. He said You want your phone number PROMINENTLY displayed. You want to make sure you edit your html meta tag description to include your phone number first so your search engine listing will display your lawn care business like this. http – 111-222-3333 Joes lawn care blah blah blah blah blah lawn care in Your City blah blah blah blah blah . For those that dont know, I asked him what is the importance of having your phone number in that location? Why is it so important? He responded by saying Lets say you lawn care services in Somewhere, Arkansas. Your would want to make your web TITLE to read Somewhere Arkansas Lawn Care Service Your DESCRIPTION would be (assuming this is your website name): www.SomewhereLawnCare.com 111-222-3333 Somewhere Arkansas lawn care? We are the lawn service leaders in Somewhere Arkansas. We specialize in landscaping, lawn care, landscape lighting and sprinkler systems in the Somewhere Arkansas area. Open or enclosed landscape trailer? – GopherHaul Lawn Care Business Marketing Forum Show

22 Aug

www.gopherforum.com When most landscapers start up their business, they tend to start with a truck only. Then later they may add an open trailer. At a certain point you may be asking yourself whats better to have, an open or enclosed trailer and why? Thats the question one of our new forum members asked and he quite a few responses I think will help you make up your mind as well. Brandon Hi everyone my name is Brandon and I am the president of my own landscape & maintenance corp. I have been in business for 9 years and hope to find continued success long into the future. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some positive and negative attributes of an enclosed trailer as opposed to an open utility trailer to move lawn care equipment from job to job? I have an open trailer now and I am thinking of making the switch over to an enclosed one. Keith: I can think of a few pros and cons of the top of my head. Pros: – Ability to lock. – Protection from rain. – Larger area to put name/logo/phone number. – Looks more professional. – Possible increased slipstreaming giving better gas milage (offset by weight, Im sure). – Ability to put shelves/storage areas. – Protects cargo from rocks kicked up by your truck. – Winter storage. Cons: – Increased cost. – Increased axle and tongue weight. – Inability to load from top (leaves, mulch, dirt). This is the biggest negative I can think of. – Doesnt air out well when mower has wet grass or fuel fumes. – Reduced freedom of movement

www.gopherforum.com Which lawn care business logo would you choose? At first glance, you would think choosing a lawn care business logo would be easy. Just pick the one that for whatever reason, stands out to you. Maybe the color, maybe the boldness, maybe the way it looks on your truck. But as we will see in this discussion there is more to choosing a lawn care business logo than just those issues. Lawn guy wrote on the Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum opinions please, there is one lawn care business logo I like the best but I want to get a general opinion on this thanks. Tom wrote I like the smiley face logo one the best. The smiling face says Im confident and want to be a friend of the customer. You will be as happy with the results as I am producing them. Lawn guy responded I like that one also. I live in a very rural country area were everyone is kind of scared of big businesses so I think it kinda shows a home town feel too. I am not exactly sure why, but its just different. Its more personal and associated rather than an industrial or high tech style logo. Does that make any sense? Tom: It does to me! Seek friendship and indicate your desire to help solve their problems. I like the idea as well. I do feel it conveys friendliness and fun. It makes me think the owner would be approachable and easy to work with. You could have business cards that say Steve The Lawn Guy. And then you could become known in your area as the lawn guy. You could make promotional videos that

GopherHaul 24- Lawn Care Software Business Entrepreneur Show

01 Aug

GopherHaul 24- Lawn Care Software Business Entrepreneur Show Business Question: A member of our Gopher Lawn Care Business Forum, Michelle asked about buying a lawn care business. How much should she be paying? In response a member wrote: “General rule of thumb for buying customers is that they are worth about 1 month revenue. If they are commercial you’ll pay a little more and if there is a signed multi-year agreement in place ( which you said there is ) then this will push the price up too. So it could be worth as much as 2 or 3 months revenue depending on the situation.” Mike then joined the discussion and talked about how many customers would stay with him after he bought their accounts. “I did lose a few here and there, but I only paid 2.5 times the mowing price, and usually got at least 3 mows before they quit me.” “Have you checked some of his accounts to make sure they are priced in accordance with what you would charge? One of the lawn companies I bought out was considerably higher in pricing than mine, so I ended up raising all my original customers up to that standard.” Read more or join this post here: www.gophergraphics.com Should you offer to buy lawn care accounts on craigslist? www.gophergraphics.com Fernando joined the discussion and said he posts ads in free online sites in which he offers to buy lawn care customer accounts.
